Artist Bio
Victor Escobedo, whose artistic signature is Manu, is a native of Empalme Sonora, Mexico.
After moving to Tucson, Victor made it a point to share his time with kids in his community through art, particularly painting murals around town. The mural art form is cherished in the Mexican-American community, and Victor believes youngsters need to learn to appreciate and care for murals.
Since 1996, Victor has been a teaching artist with the Tucson Arts Brigade, a nonprofit service-based community mural arts and education organization for youth, elders and adults. By sharing his talents, he hopes to foster the next generation of artists and to inspire people to care about their community and be willing to work together to change it.
Victor's work includes images inspired by Mexican lore and tradition, memories of his childhood, and the cosmos. His work is in the Tucson Art Museum. Victor has been featured in several publications, including the Arizona Daily Star, Tucson Life and Style, and the Mexican Consulate Newsletter. |
